Man steals TV from Walmart, stabs employee

Surveillance photo

A bargain-hunting shopper tried to waltz out of a Northeast Philly Walmart with a widescreen television and without paying for it last Friday. When a store employee questioned him, the man tried to flash a two-year-old receipt. And when that failed, he pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed the employee in the arm.

The robber escaped with the 48-inch TV, but surveillance cameras captured images of him. Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the crook.

The altercation occurred at about 3:24 a.m. at 4301 Byberry Road in the Philadelphia Mills mall complex. The employee suffered a cut to his arm and did not seek medical attention.

The robber carried the TV outside, where a second unknown person helped him load it into a small silver car, possibly a two-door model, with dark windows. Initially, the robber tried to take two pairs of boots, too, but dropped them before fleeing the store.

He was described as white, 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 160 pounds, wearing a gray zip-up hoodie over a dark shirt and a baseball cap. Visit the Philadelphia Police channel on YouTube.com to view surveillance video. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. ••
